This course provides foundational knowledge critical for Law Enforcement Liaisons to be effective at the state and local level, and to develop/enhance the skills necessary to engage with law enforcement leaders in a meaningful way that can influence action. The course emphasizes the application of foundational knowledge to enhance the LEL’s effectiveness in supporting their state’s highway safety priorities; developing and maintaining professional partnerships and relationships; facilitating the promotion of established highway safety programs; and encouraging innovative approaches to influence law enforcement agency participation in traffic law enforcement. A significant part of the classroom experience is for LELs to interact with peers from other states to share information and expand their professional networks.

This course is designed as “Core Competency” training with a target audience of LELs operating at the state and local level. It is also suitable for SHSO staff who manage or have direct involvement with their state LEL program.
