In light of this past Monday’s Amtrak Train crash with a large truck in North Carolina, now is a good time to remind everyone it is crucial once a vehicle becomes stalled or hung up on railroad tracks, to immediately notify the appropriate railroad by telephoning the appropriate emergency numbers show here:
Railroads’ Emergency Phone Numbers
Provide the location, crossing number (if posted), and the name of the road or highway that crosses the tracks. And be sure to specify that a vehicle is on the tracks!

Call the local police or dial 911 if you cannot locate the railroad emergency phone number at the site.
FMCSA has also created a Railroad Crossing Safety Visor Card that can be printed and placed in each patrol vehicle and at each telecommunication center console.
