Law enforcement officers and first responders put their lives on the line every time they have to work on the side of a busy roadway. All 50 states have “Move Over” laws to protect law enforcement officers and other first responders, but fewer than three-quarters of the public are aware of these laws. The National LEL Program and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hosted a discussion on Move Over communications best practices, including materials that are available to the LEL community on trafficsafetymarketing.gov. Participants learned about experiences, lessons learned and best practices in Minnesota and Illinois on enforcing Move Over laws and educating motorists.
