The impaired driving landscape has changed and is continuing to do so, with drugged driving on the increase nationwide. Chuck Hayes, the Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program training coordinator for the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), discussed the latest issues related to impaired driving, with an emphasis on marijuana and driving impairment. Chuck also provided an update on the drugged driving training available to law enforcement, discussed some of the results of that training, and discussed the continuing efforts to expand the training to assist officers in detecting drug impairment.
Chuck Hayes is the Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program training coordinator and project manager for the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Chuck has been with the IACP for almost 13 years after serving for 29½ years with the Oregon State Police and retiring as a Captain of the Patrol Services Division. Chuck has been a drug recognition expert for over 25 years. He is also part of the SFST, ARIDE and DRE curriculum development and revisions team.
