Recent civil events across the country, a rise in citizen oversight of law enforcement and second-guessing of police decisions are moving law enforcement agencies to review and update policies and training curricula. This session of the LEL Webinar Series touched on an aspect of training that is critical to the highway safety program…the traffic stop. David Daggett and Jonathan Naylor, two outstanding Traffic Safety Resources Prosecutors from Maryland, presented an overview of United States Supreme Court decisions related to traffic stops, searches and seizures. This webinar, which is part one of a three part series, is designed to assist police, prosecutors and LELs in becoming more familiar with laws regarding traffic stops and detentions, provide an update on Fourth Amendment case law, enhance confidence in making traffic stops and aid LELs in assisting their law enforcement network in matters related to traffic stops and detentions.
